Cafénation is a trendy “order at the counter” coffee shop located in the heart of Brighton Center. The menu, which is displayed on the back wall of the café, is full of various omelets, sandwiches, and a large list of crepes that are to die for. You’ll indefinitely have a tough time choosing between sweet or savory, and eventually will have to just “go with your gut”, literally. We highly recommend the Iced Mint Chocolate Chip Latte, along with the Otom Breakfast Sandwich on ciabatta—the spicy aioli on the sandwich is an incredible compliment to the fluffy eggs and bacon. The crepes are warm and crispy on the outside and gooey-sweet on the inside, no matter what filling you choose (but we have to say that the Nutella strawberry option is chocolatey perfection). Portion sizes are slightly smaller than average, so the prices make sense; the breakfast sandwiches are around $4-6 each, and omelets are right around $9. Our huge, number one complaint about cafénation is that you can’t come here and expect to find a seat 100% of the time. In fact, we estimate a 50/50 chance of sitting down while eating there. Even for a coffee shop, the space is painfully small and seems to be crowded at all hours of the day, with seats basically on top of one another. If you want a long and guaranteed relaxing brunch, maybe try somewhere else. But if you’re prepared to potentially take your incredible food to-go, then we highly recommend cafénation.
