Being only a couple blocks from Harvard, Cambridge Common has the perfect location, and we were excited to be invited to try their brunch menu. This is a low-key and welcoming spot that is the perfect place to grab some hair of the dog, or just do a casual brunch with friends or family. The décor is that of a typical bar, but large windows make the space bright and homey. The menu is a medium size, with a nice variety of omelets, brunch sandwiches, and sweets. In addition to the regular menu, they also offer weekly brunch specials. We saw a smoothie option on the menu and, feeling healthy, we almost ordered one, buttttt then we saw that there was a rum-spiked smoothie too. So obviously that won. Such a fun and different brunch drink addition! French Toast Bites are another must to start off the meal. They’re not fluffy like we imagined, but actually thin and crispy, and absolutely coated in powdered sugar and cinnamon. The Chimichanga Mama entree is huge, basically the size of an infant. It’s stuffed with pulled chicken, scrambled eggs, black beans, corn and peppers, all in a habanero tortilla smothered with sauce. This choice is a happy medium if you can’t decide between breakfast or lunch food...or if you’re absolutely starving. The Breakfast BLT is amazing too. The eggs inside it are perfectly cooked over medium, making a great addition to the classic sandwich. Unfortunately, the home fries that were served with the meal were a bit cold and could have been a little crispier. Overall, portion sizes were perfect, and we left happy and full. We were blown away by the low prices here, expecting everything to be at least a few bucks higher given the huge portions and high food quality. Everything except for the Chimichanga Mama and Steak Benedict is under $10. This is definitely a spot to check out in Cambridge!
