When the Kirkland Tap & Trotter team reached out to us to come try brunch, we were excited to see what the sister restaurant of Cambridge’s beloved Craigie on Main had to offer. The restaurant, located in Somerville, has an eclectic, rustic and laid back decor. The menu follows the same motif with a medium sized variety of dishes like chilaquiles, sirloin tips and eggs, and even a brown rice brunch bowl. We know it’s sometimes hard to choose what to eat, so order one of their brunch cocktails to sip while you make your decision. The sorbet float is a mix of sorbet, lime and chartreuse that is sure to wake you up! Once the food arrives you'll be impressed with the portions, which make up for the price, as entrees range from $14 to $17. The food is simple, with each ingredient playing its part and nothing for fluff. The chilaquiles have a nice kick from the fresh jalapeno which is balanced by the crème and rich black beans. The sirloin tips are cooked nice and rare (bloody has more than one place in brunch) and are ready to be dunked in some yolk. Kirkland Tap & Trotter also has good shareable options such as grilled avocados and sweet, crispy-fried plantains. This is definitely a place you want to come to hungry!
