In the heart of downtown Edgartown on the Vineyard, Rosewater is an adorable place to stop in to either peruse the retail or grab some delicious food! Half of the establishment serves as a shop where one can buy beautiful kitchen knick-knacks, cookbooks and local island treats while the other half is a bakery / walk-up restaurant. We came for some breakfast as we first arrived on the island on a rainy Saturday. The spot is populated with fabulous vacationers grabbing their morning coffee. The breakfast menu is admittedly tiny, written on a chalkboard behind the counter with very few selections. However, we made due and found some yummy dishes! With two vegans in the mix, we had to make some major modifications. We ordered the avocado toast, breakfast hash with no eggs, smoked salmon flat, breakfast sandwich and breakfast bowl with no egg. The avocado toast is not the best we have ever had. It comes from a refrigerated display case alongside prepared foods such as salads and slaws. Strange choice for an avo toast but surprisingly it was not horrible! The breakfast hash is incredible and is def a recipe we will be copying. Simple, nutritious and delicious, the hash is made up of Brussels sprouts, broccoli and carrots! That’s it! It would probably be even more delicious with a fried egg on top, as it is supposed to be served. The smoked salmon flat is presented in the same case as the avocado toast. It is delicious! On a nice piece of sour dough is smoked salmon, pickled red onion, capers and dill all atop a dill cream cheese. The breakfast bowl is a corn-crusted black bean patty with avocado pico de gallo – nothing special TBH! The charm of Edgartown and the shop inside definitely add to the experience more positively than the food does but it is pretty good for a small-scale restaurant!
