Okay, for an Irish sports bar, Shenannigans in Southie absolutely kills the brunch game. The atmosphere is very casual, perfect for an easy, no-frills brunch the morning after a night out. It’s also an amazing place to have a long, drawn out boozy brunch with friends. The menu looks average so our expectations for taste followed suit, but we were more than pleasantly surprised. There is a mix of Irish options like the Irish Farmer’s Omelet, as well as more American entrees like chicken & waffles or the breakfast burrito. There’s also a nice spread of carb and egg options. Definitely take advantage of the fact that this place is a bar, because their brunch drinks are super strong. Try their mimosa or a White Russian. For meals, you really can’t go wrong. The breakfast burger is juicy, topped with thick bacon, sharp cheddar cheese, and of course a fried egg. Or go with the breakfast burrito, which is one of the best we’ve ever had. It has the perfect proportion of sausage, cheesy scrambled eggs, and pico de gallo, spread evenly throughout the tortilla. The eggs are cooked to perfection, and the sausage is full of spices and flavor. Let’s not forget the carb options--the chocolate chip pancakes are fluffy and absolutely delicious, with just the right amount of melty chocolate chips. The home fries that come with each meal are small and not seasoned incredibly well, but still tasty. Overall, the food quality is right around average. The portion sizes here are perfect, and so are the prices, with the average dish landing at only $9. Shenannigans is a must try!
