Located in the South End, The Gallows is a trendy restaurant that is known for their unique poutine creations and American comfort food with a twist. The atmosphere is pretty cool; the staff is extremely friendly and automatically make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. There is a massive Ouija board on the wall - the spirits are most likely telling you that you are going to experience an epic meal. The brunch menu is small-medium offering only egg options but they do have salads, burgers and sandwiches if you are not in the breakfast mood. The Gallows is sister restaurants with Blackbird Doughnuts so you bet we ordered two of those to start (see previous post for photo). The Guillotine is one of the most popular items off the brunch menu. It’s a fancier version of the traditional ham and cheese croissant. It is topped with Brie cheese, truffle oil (YASS!), a perfectly cooked sunny egg and sausage gravy. This dish is very filling and rich but so damn good; anything with truffle oil, egg and/or Brie cheese makes us happy. The Oyster Po’ Boy is a great choice if you aren’t feeling #DTB (Down To Brunch). It comes with buttermilk-fried oysters, lettuce, tomato and chipotle aioli drizzled on top. Not to mention, the house-made potato chips are unbelievable. We wish we could have taken an entire bag home with us. All the menu items are priced around the $16 range but the portions are on the larger side.
