Where do we even start, we love this place so much! Zaftigs, a traditional Jewish deli, serves breakfast all day in addition to their lunch and dinner menus. The atmosphere is inviting, bright and covered in images of Zaftigs (the Yiddish word for a fat lady) and the constant hustle gives it that authentic Jewish deli feel. You'll see local young families speckled throughout the busy restaurant but it's also a perfect spot for a group of friends or eating solo at the counter. The menu is enormous and offers just about anything you could possibly want for brunch, plus some special Jewish treats like fresh cheese blintz and challah French toast. We started with the combo platter (see previous post), which includes all your Jewish staples; knish, kuggle, latke and blintz. Although not a typical thing to order with brunch, we recommend getting a side of their half sour pickles in addition to whatever you order for your entree; they are out of this world good. The portion sizes are huge (or yuuuuuuge as said in a Jewish NY accent) and combined with the homemade bagel chips and cream cheese that come before the meal you are guaranteed to leave full. Another recommendation; get the challah French toast! It's perfectly dense, eggy, sweet and DELICIOUS. Or, if eggs are more your thing we recommend the smoked salmon Benny, which comes on two perfectly crisp potato latkes. The food quality is high, especially considering that Zaftigs is a casual eatery and the prices are reasonable with nearly everything on the menu falling under $15. Sadly you can't get a Bloody Mary here but, give their mimosas a try!
